Today’s Best Award: Mod Pink Olives Business Cards

I got a great gift to start out 2011. On New Year’s Day I received another Today’s Best Award for my Mod Pink Olives Pattern Business Cards:

New Colors, New Designs

I’m doubly happy because I’ve been exploring mod and minimalistic designs, as well as modern floral prints lately, and it’s wonderful to know that I’m doing something right to receive a feature on Zazzle.

The color scheme for Mod Pink Olives design is based on colors that Pantone and other color folks have spotlighted for 2011, which makes the timing of this award even more ironic-in-a-good-way. The pink ‘olives’ were inspired by Honeysuckle, Pantone’s 2011 Color of the Year, which pantone describes as “encouraging and uplifting.”

I love this idea, and I think that my recent designs have reflected that same tone. I’ve been drawn to simple but elegant design and bright color.

I’m also pleased to get the award because this floral print was my second stab at doing this modern rose print design. In the first version, the rose blooms were all wine red, and the background was an olive greenish hue. While it was nice enough, I wasn’t ‘feeling’ the color scheme so I started over. I searched Adobe’s kuler.com for inspiration, and found this new, softer color palette. Immediately inspired, I redid the print, with smaller rose blossoms and alternating colors.
